What is The LeadingAge Texas Art Is Ageless Contest & Exhibit?
This contest showcases the artistic talents of older Texans from retirement communities across the state. We hold an annual exhibit taking place in May in conjunction with Older Americans Month and the LeadingAge Texas Annual Meeting. LeadingAge Texas currently receives over 200 entries every year that are judged by experts in the field such as university professors, artists, authors, etc. The judges are always impressed with the quality of work submitted and the expression displayed through various medias. We at LeadingAge Texas believe that this project is one of the most positive tools we can utilize to highlight the positives of the aging process. It educates the public on the value of the creativity that can come with living long, healthy lives.
The contest and exhibit demonstrate that whether one continues a lifelong hobby or pursues a new hobby late in life, "Art Is Ageless."
Who Can Participate?
Current residents of LeadingAge Texas member homes can participate. The submitted artwork must have been completed when the resident was at least 65 years old and living in a LeadingAge Texas home.
Why Should Your Community Participate?
-
Resident participation improves self-esteem and encourages creativity.
-
The Art Is Ageless contest is a great excuse to stage your own community art contest & exhibit. Place winners from your contest can then submit their artwork to LeadingAge Texas' Art Is Ageless. Or, submit them all!
-
Winning pieces will be displayed in Dallas at the LeadingAge Texas Annual Meeting & Trade Show, May 19-23, 2012 at the Fairmont Hotel.
-
All participants are invited to attend an Awards Ceremony & Reception at no cost on May 19, 2012 at the Fairmont Hotel. This is an excellent field trip for residents and a chance for them to meet new people, be recognized and have a good time.
-
Everyone is a winner! Participation is free, and all will receive a certificate of participation.
-
Place winners will receive a small gift from LeadingAge Texas and a certificate, first place winners will receive a plaque, and the Best of Show winner will receive a special award. These will all be presented at the Awards Ceremony.
