Around the globe the explosive increase in the elderly population has resulted in an avalanche of dementing illnesses.  Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other brain destroying illnesses kill millions, and rob sufferers of a lifetime of memories.
 
This session is an overview of cutting edge research about the types, causes, and risk factors of dementing illnesses.  This upbeat and comprehensive presentation will allow you to laugh, learn, and leave with a completely different perspective of the aging brain.  More importantly, you will walk away with powerful tools for reducing your risks of dementing disorders.    
    
Topics will include differences of normal aging vs. dementia, causes of dementias that many clinicians miss, symptoms of dementias, and avoiding dementia.

As well as being a psychologist specializing in older adults, Dr. William Matteson is a consultant and an accomplished speaker and author.  For the last 15 years, Dr. Matteson has worked in assisted living and other long-term care organizations, assessing and treating older adults with cognitive and behavior problems.  He also trains other health professionals in the art of improving quality of life for older adults.
