March 27, 2012 How to Develop a Tactile and Sensory Activity in a Long-Term Care Setting The participants will understand the definition and usefulness of a tactile and sensory activity The participants will share examples of programs that encompass tactile and sensory activities The participants will discuss necessary resources for this type of activity
April 24, 2012 Developing a Scrapbook Project that Includes the Resident and Family The participants will discuss how a scrapbooking program can be a positive way to reminisce about times past The participants will share ideas for developing a scrapbooking project in a long-term car setting The participants will be able to develop a master resource list of necessary scrapbooking supplies for this program
June 26, 2012 Developing a Scavenger Hunt for the Residents and Staff in Long-Term Care The participants will be able to define how a scavenger hunt can benefit residents and staff The participants will discuss necessary resources for developing a scavenger hunt activity The participants will share ideas for scavenger hunt themes
July 31, 2012 Activities that Bring the Outdoors Inside in a Long-Term Care Setting The participants will discuss benefits of outdoor activities for indoor residents The participants will develop a list of resources and supplies need for this type of activity The participants will discuss residents who may benefit from and enjoy this type of activity
August 28, 2012 Working with Activities that Engage Family Members with the Resident The participants will discuss how engaging family members into planning and participating in resident activities can be beneficial The participants will share ideas on getting family members involved The participants will discuss options for family member outreach: i.e. newsletter, family council, care plan meetings, etc
September 25, 2012 Activity Assessment, the Activity Calendar, and Required Documentation in Long-Term Care: Is Everything Included? The participants will review necessary documentation for activity assessments including the activity calendar and other required documentation for long-term care The participants will discuss challenges with completing required documentation including appropriate solutions The participants will discuss and share resources for required documentation that are helpful for activity staff
October 30, 2012 Developing Effective Time Management Skills for Handling the Busiest Activity Weeks in a Long-Term Care Setting The participants will understand how to utilize resources for developing healthy time management skills The participants will identify enablers and barriers to time management The participants will utilize a case study to come up with solutions to time management challenges
November 27, 2012 Bringing the Resident's Self-Esteem to the Surface through Carefully Thought Out Activities The participants will discuss the importance of each resident's self-esteem and how this might positively or negatively affect their well-being The participants will discuss activities that would be appropriate for building self-esteem vs. those that might not The participants will share resources for choosing resident activities that build self-esteem
